Which Are Better – Authority Sites Or Mini Sites?
Online marketers have been debating the choice between an authority site or minisite for years. Search engines understandably want to provide solid and good content to the people who represent their customer base. (Even though Google’s massive profits are mainly derived by pay per click advertising.) People choose minisites for definite purposes, and so in that sense they need to balance that with what the search engines want. The time savings enjoyed by only building minisites may be lost in the backend with promoting them – it all depends. People who only build the larger authority sites will find that more doors are open to them in terms of promotion and reputation. But yes, you can still find ways to make good money by only using minisites.
Whether you decide on a mini or authority site will depend to a large extent on what kind of market you want to target. Even when the two types of sites target similar markets, they’ll be doing so in a different manner.
If you’re targeting a large market and you want to promote many diverse products, you would want to set up an authority site. The mini site approach would mean setting up a separate site for each product, which can work but is a completely different strategy. Depending on your market, and the number of products you want to sell, you have to decide which model is more appropriate.
As you know, maybe, Google changes their algorithm to reward things they like and penalize what they do not like. If you listen to what it’s been saying recently, you can be sure that mini sites are considered less valuable than sites with more valuable content, i.e. authority sites. As with Adwords,, your quality score goes down the less valuable your site is deemed. You can still do something with SEO and mini sites, but you will have to work harder at it. The SEO you did would not get you the same results it would have gotten you before this year. That’s part of what you have to consider when you do SEO.
An authority website gives you the opportunity for greater credibility at a faster rate. Larger sites filled with useful content tend to be more impressive to visitors. It is a natural tendency to begin thinking the person behind the site must know what they’re talking about. So then there are feelings of credibility that tend to happen. This is a rare situation for mini sites. It can, but that is quite rare. Deciding whether to create an authority site or a mini site is one that may come down to how Google ranks different sites in those search results. Mini sites still offer plenty of benefits, but you may find it a little more time consuming trying to drive traffic to them. Any well considered marketing plan should include mini sites somewhere. Yet you should see more benefits for taking the time and effort to create a bigger site.
