Not enough USB power?
Hello! Well, I was using one of my USB ports witch my wireless Mouse and all of a sudden…it stopped working. I didn’t hit it against anything. None of my two ports worked. So later, after many tries, the ports started working again. Good. Then I ran into another problem. Everything works in the ports except for my external USB Hitachi Hard Drive. When I plug that into both ports (it uses a Y shaped Usb Cable) it acts as if it’s not getting enough power. It keeps trying to start up, but to no success. I have used this before in this same laptop the same way and it used to work just fine. But now…nothing. Any suggestions? Other USB devices work fine. I know it is NOT a bad hard drive because this works in other computers.
This is a brand new laptop, so USB ports are definitely 2.0
I’ve noticed that for those drives that require the dual USB connection for power, you need to disconnect the cable from the drive, plug BOTH USB ends into two ports, THEN connect the other end to the drive. If you have the cable connected to the drive, and you plug the Y split end into the computer one connection at a time, it won’t work.
